Draconis Sanguis is a perennial evergreen vine, up to 10-20 meters long. Stems sheathed and covered with spikes. Pinnately compound leaves alternate at branch tips, sometimes subopposite at lower part. Petioles and rachis with sharp spines. Inflorescence spadix, pale yellow crown flowers, unisexual, dioecious. The fruit is drupe-shaped, ovoid spherical, about 2-3 cm in diameter, reddish brown, with yellow scales, and the fruit contains dark red liquid resin, which often oozes out from under the scales, and looks like a blood clot after drying.
